Viewing the urgent need for vocationalising the existing careers in the fields of disaster control, management of hydrological, coastal, marine, atmospheric, geological, land, forest, wind, water, industrial and technological disasters besides biodiversity, ecology and environment, habitat, population, global warming, ozone depletion, sea level rise, wildlife, wilderness, natural resources conservation and management, a joint venture national and international education and training project has jointly been initiated.
About Us
Indian Institute of Ecology and Environment, New Delhi was established on the occasion of the World Environment Day on 5 June 1981. The motivation for the establishment of this institution has been based on the issues of environmental education discussed in the deliberations at Founes in 1971 and later at Stockholm in 1972 followed by the workshop on Environmental Eduacation at Belgred in 1975 and also on the resolutions and recommendations of the Intergovernmental Conference on Environment at Tbilisi in 1977 organised by UNEP and UNESCO.
Services
IIEE has conducted and still conducting many environmental awareness programmes such as environment related essay, debet, painting, quiz competitions, cultural programmes in Delhi in particular and general in India to draw the attention of students of schools as well as colleges, parents and the common people.

Probably, no other group is more affected by environmental destruction
than the rural as well as urban poor. Even dawn brings with it a long
march in search of fuel, fodder and water. It does not matter if they
are old or young. The crucial household needs have to be met every day.
As ecological conditions worsen, the long march becomes even longer and
more tiresome. Caught between poverty and environmental destruction,
they could well be reaching the limits of physical endurance.
